One Year Ago Today...

One Year Ago Today...
I wake up with my favorite girls sleeping in the rooms around me, and tip-toe upstairs to find my parents and grandparents in the kitchen.  They all give me hugs and wish me "Happy Wedding Day", and my parents make me a delicious breakfast.  I sit with my grandparents and chat about the day, and about the joy I feel.  It is a wonderful start to the day, so quiet and perfect with my family around me.

One Year Ago Today...
My mom and I start cutting open the plastic from 15 flower bouquets we picked up at the grocery store the day before.  We carefully cut the stems and place each bouquet in mason jars to be used as our centerpieces.  My bridesmaids are awake now and are enjoying the breakfast my parents made, and Kiva is just looking around, taking everything in.

One Year Ago Today...
I quickly shower and head out to decorate the reception room.  It looks so beautiful and simple.  We unload the flowers, favors and guest book table decor and get started.  I ask the site coordinator if the napkins are around so we can fold them for the favors to be placed on top.  She is surprised at how calm I am and insists that her staff come out and fold the napkins so I don't have to.  The room comes together in just a few minutes and we head back to our cabin.
One Year Ago Today...
My amazing friend Kat arrives to do my hair and makeup.  It is so wonderful to have her there to chat with.  My aunt and uncle arrive and we share memories about their wedding day five years ago; it is such a blessing to have these amazing people around me.
One Year Ago Today...
My hair and makeup is ready and more family members arrive.  I haven't seen them in a number of years, so hugs all around.  My bridesmaids come upstairs looking gorgeous, and help me into my gown.

One Year Ago Today...
I walk out into the common space of the cabin to find my whole family. I am first greeted by my aunt who shares this incredible moment with me.  I am cool as a clam, taking in all the sweet chaos around me.  Someone checks the time and everyone starts to head out the door to the ceremony site. My Dad walks outside to pull the car closer to the door.
One Year Ago Today...
My family has all left the cabin, and the room goes from tons of people and noise to just myself ,in under a minute.  This moment, I will never forget.  I'm standing alone in this big cabin and look down to see myself in my wedding dress, with a bouquet.  I think "Whoa...this is actually happening; the day is here."  It's not nerves, just a surreal feeling that the day has finally come, and I am a bride.  My dad returns and we talk about my future and how happy he is for me.  Of course he makes me cry, and we drive to the ceremony.
One Year Ago Today...
I arrive at the ceremony site to see Matt and our friends waiting to start the processional.  We are in the white car behind he and his Mom.  As soon as Matt is down the hill and out of site, I emerge from the car and my brother and future brother-in-law both give me hugs and tell me I look beautiful.  Another beautiful moment I won't ever forget.
 One Year Ago Today...
My Dad parks the car and meets me up at the top of the hill.  There is a large rock hiding us, but I peak around to see my groom and all of our loved ones waiting for me.  The moment is upon us, and I am smiling uncontrollably.
One Year Ago Today...
Our wonderful guitarist and friend starts playing "Easier Tonight" by Matt Wertz, and that is my cue.  I step out from behind the rock and make my way down the long aisle to my groom.  I am smiling like a crazy person and tears are streaming down my face.  I'm so glad to have my Dad there to support me.  As soon as I turn the corner, I see that Matt is crying. He never cries.  My heart is full.
One Year Ago Today...
I am part of the most beautiful ceremony.  To be honest, I don't remember very much of it; it was such a blur.  Matt and I just stand there holding hands and smiling at each other like goons.  Drew's words are amazing and we exchange vows and rings.  We kiss.  It is so perfect, and so us.
One Year Ago Today...
Right after our kiss, we look at each other as if to say "We did it! We actually did it, and we're married now! eek!".  We walk back up the aisle and off down the road while our guests make their way to the reception.  We take a million pictures with our families and bridal party to capture the day.
One Year Ago Today...
More pictures, but just the two of us. So much love and joy is felt in these moments.
One Year Ago Today...
We arrive at our reception, and are greeted in the most amazing way.  To walk into a room with all of those people you hold near and dear, knowing they're all there rooting for you, is amazing. We walk around the room to greet everyone and give many hugs.  We eat delicious food, and love every moment of this celebration.
One Year Ago Today...
We share our first dance, dance with our parents, and eat the most delicious cake.
One Year Ago Today...
We duck out to take a few more pictures, as the light was perfect when the sun was starting to set.  We change into our getaway clothes and are sent off with tons of bubbles.
One Year Ago Today...
Was the best day. It was the perfect day and the perfect expression of our love and relationship.

One Year Ago Today...
We became husband and wife.

It was emotional to write this post, and so wonderful to look back on what a wonderful day we had.  And even better than that, we have had an incredible year.  We are happier than ever, and just enjoying our life.  We look forward to every moment in the future, good and bad, knowing that we will never go through anything alone.
